Need another few stops? Remember that wider focal lengths gather more light. Zoom out to speed up.

If that were true, would I not be able to zoom out and reduce the shutter speed or aperture and get the same exposure. In optics, f2 on a 28mm lens gives an aperture of 14mm. f2 on a 200mm lens would give (if you had such a lens) an aperture of 100mm (much larger). So no, wider lenses at the same aperture don’t gather more light. They just show the consequence of camera shake less. Hope this helps. John
Oops. If I am going to correct others, I should also correct myself. I should, of course, have written “would I not be able to zoom out and increase the shutter speed or reduce the aperture and get the same exposure”. Unfortunately I didn’t, so please accept my apology and the correction.
